Dr. Susan Brashear brings care for your exotic pets to Canyon Falls. She followed the Bird, Zoo, and Exotic Medicine track during her clinical rotations while studying for her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University and has over 20 years of caring for these special friends.

Exotic pets are simply any animals kept as pets that are not standard companion animal species- dogs and cats.

Dr. Brashear has experience with birds large and small, reptiles of every kind, rabbits, and pocket pets such as guinea pigs, ferrets, hamsters, rats, gerbils and mice. From setting broken wings to rabbit surgery, it’s always something interesting!

It is important to know the “husbandry” for your exotic pet- exactly how they should be cared for and their diets- to keep them healthy. Unfortunately, the internet and other sources can share incorrect information, so never hesitate to reach out for guidance. Most illnesses seen in practice are due to an issue with the diet or environment set up for the exotic pet.

From creepy crawlies, to feathers and fluff- we’ve got you covered at Canyon Falls Veterinary Hospital.

*Note, we are unable to offer care for venomous snakes and primates at this time.
